A London Wedding at St James's Hotel & Club
There's something about London that suits a wedding day beautifully. The city has this quiet grandeur to it, all dark wood and brass and soft golden light, and when you set a bride in lace against it, everything just settles into place. That's exactly what we found shooting this styled day at St James's Hotel & Club in Mayfair, and it's the kind of location I could happily return to again and again.
Getting Ready
Venue - St James's Hotel & Club
St James’s Hotel & Club gave us more beautiful backdrops than we could use in one shoot. Marble, dark panelling, gallery walls lined with prints, staircases upon staircases - the building has such a rich mix of textures that we barely had to dress a single frame. And the service that we received there was absolutely impeccable, the staff were kind and considerate and they assisted with every request. It is exactly the kind of London venue I could happily return to again and again.
Bridal Gown - @innocentiauk
The gown was just a thing of beauty. Long lace sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, and a train that seemed to catch the light wherever we moved it - it photographed beautifully in every single room we used, from the soft window light of the suite to the darker, moodier corners of the hotel.
Bridal Hair - @bridalbyphoebevalentine
The hair styling gave a soft, romantic finish that felt timeless rather than trend-led, which is exactly what I love to see on a wedding morning. It held beautifully too, through hours of portraits and movement.
Makeup Artist - @melindabridal
The makeup matched that same soft, romantic tone perfectly - natural but polished, the kind of finish that photographs beautifully in every light without ever looking overdone.
First Look and Portraits
We took the couple down through the hotel's staircases and corridors, using the building itself as a backdrop rather than fighting against it. There's a shot on the staircase that I keep coming back to. Champagne in hand, afternoon light hitting the brickwork, the two of them completely wrapped up in each other - that's the whole day summed up in one frame.
Groom Attire - @kochhouse_
The groom's cream jacquard jacket, paired with a burgundy boutonnière and that unmistakable moustache, brought real character and a slightly playful edge to every portrait. It stood out beautifully against the bride's lace without ever competing with it.
Couple - @mrandmrsknight_modelcouple
Every moment with this couple felt so genuine rather than posed. The way they looked at each other on that staircase, the small laughs between takes - that's what made the portraits work. Jo and David were an absolute pleasure to work with!
The Reception Details
Inside, the styling told its own story. Deep burgundy and merlot table runners, white candlesticks, and pale pink toned taper candles gave the tablescape a rich, deep warmth.
Merlot has to be one of the most fashionable palettes in weddings at the moment, and seeing it done properly here made it obvious why. Pearl-detailed candles sat alongside trails of red and white lace, with fresh figs and grapes scattered across the table for texture. Even the plates carried St James's own emblem, a small touch that tied the styling straight back to the venue itself. The whole table felt genuinely high class, and it was all designed and inspired by Isadora - you could see her hand in every layer of it.
Stationery Designer - @calistaandbelle
The stationery suite carried that same rich palette through beautifully, with hand-painted fig and grape illustrations running across the menus and cake cards. Small details like this are so easy to overlook, but they tied the whole day together.
Cake Designer - @bluebellkitchen
The cake was a genuine showstopper - four tiers finished in delicate sugar lace texture, cascading with garden roses in blush, burgundy, and cream. It was as much a centrepiece as any floral display in the room. And she hand made each flower - they honestly looked real!
Jewellery - @joannahandgrace
The jewellery throughout, including a pearl necklace and drop earrings, felt classic without ever competing with the dress. Understated in exactly the right way.
Florals - Maison Bloo The bouquet brought everything together beautifully - creamy garden roses, deep burgundy and plum calla lilies, and trailing anthurium leaves for movement. It picked up every tone from the tablescape without ever feeling matchy, and against the lace of the dress it photographed like something out of an oil painting.
Harpist - @noa_harpist
As the couple settled at their table, live harp music filled the room, adding that final layer of atmosphere you don't see in photographs but can somehow still feel in them. Noa really helped set the ambience for the whole day!
