A Boho Woodland Styled Shoot at Micheldever Woods, Hampshire

Some shoots come together and you just know, from the moment you arrive, that it's going to be something special. This boho woodland styled shoot at Micheldever Woods was exactly that. Dappled light through the trees, a dreamy laid-back aesthetic, and a group of incredibly talented suppliers who brought the whole vision to life in the most beautiful way.

Micheldever Woods is one of Hampshire's hidden gems. Tucked away between Winchester and Basingstoke, it's most famous for its bluebell season in spring, when the forest floor turns a vivid violet-blue that looks almost unreal. But outside of bluebell season it's equally stunning - tall beech trees, soft filtered light, and that particular quiet that you only get deep in a wood. For a boho styled shoot, it was the perfect backdrop.

The Vision: Boho and Woodland, Done Beautifully

The brief for this shoot was relaxed, romantic, and rooted in nature. Think organic textures, flowing fabrics, wildflower florals, and an aesthetic that felt effortless rather than overdone. The kind of wedding that feels like it grew from the forest floor rather than was designed in a mood board - though of course, it absolutely was, and every detail was considered with enormous care.

The result was something genuinely gorgeous, and I'm so proud of what this team pulled together.

The Cake

At the heart of the tablescape was a cake that stopped me in my tracks. Three layers with fresh florals and their initials pressed into the sides, dried botanicals scattered around the base, and the most beautiful organic shape that felt completely in keeping with the woodland setting. It was the kind of cake that photographs itself - soft, natural, and full of texture.

A wedding cake like this is such a statement piece for a boho wedding. If you're planning a woodland or outdoor celebration in Hampshire and want something that feels romantic and completely unfussy, this style of cake is worth every penny.

The Wedding Singer

There's something about live music in an outdoor setting that you genuinely cannot replicate with a playlist. For this shoot we had Talisa whose voice filled the woods in the most incredible way - acoustic, warm, and completely in keeping with the mood of the day. And she really had all of us dancing away in the forest at noon!

Live music is one of those details that transforms the atmosphere of a wedding or celebration, and for a boho woodland wedding in particular, an acoustic singer is a perfect fit.

The Celebrant

Our celebrant, Jodie, was wonderful - warm, present, and with that particular ability to make a ceremony feel genuinely personal rather than scripted. For couples who want a wedding that truly reflects who they are, a celebrant-led ceremony is one of the most meaningful choices you can make. You write your own vows, you shape the whole ceremony around your story, and the result is something that feels entirely yours. For Micheldever Woods, Jodie prepared a beautiful hand fasting ceremony with carefully selected ribbons to represent the feel of the day.

In a woodland setting especially, a celebrant ceremony just works. No fixed structure, no formality, just two people and the words that matter most to them.

Hair and Make Up

The hair and make up for this shoot was an absolute masterclass in the boho bridal aesthetic - soft, textured, and utterly romantic. Loose waves with small botanical details tucked in, skin that looked glowy and ethereal. The kind of look that photographs beautifully in woodland light, which tends to be soft and a little green-toned, and requires a slightly different approach than a studio or church setting.

For brides planning a woodland or outdoor wedding in Hampshire, I always recommend discussing the lighting with your hair and make up artist in advance. Lauren knows exactly what she is doing!

The Invitations

The stationery for this shoot was a real love letter to the boho aesthetic. Hand-lettered calligraphy, earthy tones, pressed botanical illustrations, and a texture to the paper that felt luxurious without being fussy. Invitations are the first impression your guests get of your wedding, and for a boho woodland celebration, they set the tone perfectly.

Botanical-inspired invitation suites have been one of the biggest stationery trends in recent years and it's easy to see why. They feel personal, romantic, and completely in keeping with the kind of natural, laid-back aesthetic that so many couples are drawn to right now. And Laura from Blossom and Ivory knows how to perfectly translate your day onto paper.

The Dress

For a boho woodland shoot, the dress is everything. Ours was just right - floaty, relaxed, and with that effortless quality that feels completely at home in a natural setting. Delicate lace detailing, a soft silhouette that moved beautifully in the breeze, and nothing stiff or overly structured about it. The kind of dress that looks like it was made for tall trees and dappled light.

Boho bridal fashion has really come into its own over the last few years, and it's easy to see why. Flowing fabrics, delicate embroidery, low backs, flutter sleeves - all of it translates incredibly well to outdoor photography. The movement you get in a dress like this when someone is walking through a wood, or the way fabric catches the light between the trees, gives photographs a romance that a more structured gown simply can't replicate in the same way. Carolyn at Olivia George Bridal knew exactly the right dress for this day.

If you're planning a woodland or outdoor wedding and wondering what to wear, my honest advice is to lean into the setting. A dress that feels relaxed, tactile, and a little undone is going to photograph beautifully and, more importantly, feel like you on a day when comfort matters just as much as everything else.

Florals & Decor

The floristry and decor was all down to Jade at Ivy & Wild, and if you've never come across her work before, go and have a look - it's the kind of floristry that feels wild and intentional at the same time. The blackberry details woven through the arrangements were so perfectly suited to the woodland setting, and that's exactly what Jade does - she works with the space rather than against it. Nothing felt placed. Everything felt like it belonged.

Content Creator

Alongside me capturing the moments, Ever Lace Media was on hand to document all the moments happening in between - the fleeting seconds, the quiet details, the energy of the day as it unfolded. It's always such a pleasure working alongside a content creator who genuinely loves what they do, and having that behind-the-scenes perspective sitting alongside the photography tells such a fuller story of the day.

Concept, Planning + Content Creation

The whole shoot was the brainchild of Sadie at Sadie Elizabeth Weddings, and the fact that the day felt so relaxed and beautifully put together is entirely down to her. She had a clear vision, pulled together a wonderful team of creatives, and made the whole thing feel easy - which anyone who has been on a styled shoot will know is no small thing. Sadie is also a wedding content creator in her own right, capturing those soft, candid in-between moments that pass so quickly on the day - so she brings both the organisational brain and the creative eye, which is a pretty brilliant combination. If you're in the early stages of planning and feeling a little overwhelmed by it all, Sadie is exactly the kind of person you want in your corner.

Shooting in Micheldever Woods: A Photographer's Perspective

As a Hampshire wedding photographer, I've shot in a lot of beautiful locations, but woodland shoots have a very particular magic. The light in Micheldever Woods is soft and ever-changing - it moves through the canopy depending on the time of day and the season, and catching it at the right moment gives you images with a warmth and depth that's hard to achieve anywhere else.

The challenges of woodland photography are real - the light is lower, the contrast between light patches and deep shadow is high, and you have to move quickly when a shaft of light comes through the canopy. But when it works, it really works. The images from this shoot are some of my favourites I've ever taken.

Planning a Boho Woodland Wedding in Hampshire

If this aesthetic speaks to you, Hampshire is a brilliant county for it. Micheldever Woods, the New Forest, and the woodland estates around Winchester and the South Downs all offer incredible settings for a relaxed outdoor celebration. Paired with the right suppliers - a celebrant, a singer, a talented cake maker, a hair and make up artist who understands natural light - the result can be extraordinary.

Styled shoots like this one are also a brilliant way for couples to find their wedding suppliers. The vendors involved in shoots like this are people I genuinely recommend - they showed up with passion, professionalism, and a shared vision, and that's exactly the kind of team you want around you on your wedding day.
